Victoria can lead on climate action, but we need to do more.

Here in Victoria, over 70% of our energy still comes from burning coal.

We need a plan to replace coal with clean energy, fast.

Write to your MPs in the Victorian Parliament today, and ask them to support an urgent Parliamentary Inquiry into how we can get to 100% renewable energy here in Victoria.

After this terrible summer, I am so worried about climate change. I can’t bear to think fires, droughts and heatwaves might become the new normal.

As you are my representatives in Victoria’s Legislative Council, I hope that you will take all the action you can to tackle climate change.

I’m aware that burning coal is one of the biggest causes of climate change, but that Victoria still gets most of its electricity from burning coal.

Obviously this is something that needs to change as quickly as possible, but in a planned way so Victoria has secure energy and so workers and their community in the Latrobe Valley are not left behind.

I recently read news that Yallourn, one of Victoria’s coal power stations, might be closing soon. This will be difficult for the workers, so I want to make sure our Government is helping them retrain for other work.

Victoria has huge potential to be a leader in renewable energy, which is a much more exciting future. We already have made some great steps in this direction - with solar homes and new wind farms - now I want to see us do even better!

That’s why I’m asking you to vote in support of an upcoming inquiry in the Victorian upper house looking into how we can transition as quickly as possible to clean energy, and away from coal.

I really want to see my MPs from all parties working together on climate solutions for Victoria, so we can be a leader like SA and the ACT.
